Thanks for checking out the debut of the ESHP Blog!

I think it’s best to start at the beginning of Energy Smart Home Plans, which happened as I drove home April ‘09, from Gainesville Florida, following a career-changing meeting with a team assembled by the cutting-edge builder, Tommy Williams.

There, I was very fortunate to be introduced to the Building Scientist, Ken Fonorow and Dr. Subrato Chandra, the Program Director of the Florida Solar Energy Center. Mr. Fonorow, co-author of the Energy Star Program, had revolutionized Mr. Williams’ business in the previous few years and was about to change mine.

Our goal was to create the most energy-efficient home (with a budget!) possible, in fact a true Net-Zero Energy Home. We would proceed within an “integrated systems approach,” simply put, real cooperation between home designer, building scientist and builder. Imagine that...

I left the meeting excited to be the designer of perhaps the first $100/sq.ft., verifiable, Net-Zero Energy Home.
Energy Smart Home Plans was born
