While searching for your green, dream home design – you find that almost every home plan is referred to as “green” these days. After all, many home designers would have you believe that all you must do to make their plans green, is to add this-or-that lighting, flooring & paint. Making your search more difficult, many publishers advertise their “smaller” stock plans as green, as though that’s all there is to it. Really? While certain products and smaller homes can be a step in the right direction, we believe that creating truly green homes requires more than well-advertised products and the latest programs.

In my last (debut) blog entry, I talked about how Energy Smart Home plans began with the design of the first production-built Net-Zero Energy Home, for the “common man,” our Clearwater model, plan# NZR-101.

Since that remarkable home sold in just 16 days, the builder Tommy Willims, asked Building Scientist  Ken Fonorow and me to do it again, only this time he wanted to build the next Net-Zero Energy Home at $90 per square foot!
